One of the best kept secrets in the French Alps, Les Saisies has long been the go-to resort of French families and cross-country enthusiasts. Located just near Megève, the Espace Diamant is one of the most underrated ski areas sitting under Mont Blanc. With varied terrain, a great snow record and easy access the Espace Diamant, and Les Saisies in particular is set to boom in coming years.
Les Saisies itself is home to 70km of pistes, much of which are blue & reds making it the ultimate intermediates resort, and perfect for those beginners looking to progress to the next stage. Absolute beginners are also well catered for, with two free lifts for those who are keen to get started. Les Saisies is not known for its advanced runs, but this has its positives as the off-piste and black runs are less-likely to be tracked out as quickly. If ski du fond is your preferred sport, you are in luck. Home to the cross-country skiing events of the 1992 Winter Olympics, the facilities here are second to none. With 130km of tracks ranging from beginner to Olympic standard, there is something for all ages and abilities.
Summer in Les Saisies is a haven for hikers and mountain bikers. Over 100km of marked walking trails with itineraries ranging from easy to difficult are available at your doorstep, with many more trails in the Beaufortain Mountains and Val d’Arly. Many of these trails are tailored especially for families using GPS with games and quizzes to make it a more interactive experience for the kids.
Like the skiing, the mountain biking in Les Saisies is perfect for beginners who are looking to progress their skills. There are 140km of rolling mountain biking trails including 12 cross-country trails, 9 downhill trails and a bike park, with a further 235kms of trails in the rest of the Espace Diamant. If you prefer road biking, the area is littered with climbs which regularly feature in the Tour de France such as the Route des Crêtes and the Col des Saisies.
There is also a leisure park for the kids, with a jumping castle, swimming pool and trampolines.
