A relative newcomer to the ski scene, Revelstoke - or Revelstoke Mountain Resort - in British Columbia, Canada, has operated as a ski resort since 2007. A pedestrian-only ski village, close to the larger town of Revelstoke, the resort is built for year-round leisure with shops and restaurants set in sunny plazas.
Internal flights land at Kelowna, 2 hours from Relevstoke. International visitors can connect from Calgary or Vancouver airports.
Claiming North America's longest vertical, Revelstoke offers 1,713 metres of lift-accessed skiing - more vertical drop than other big hitters Courchevel and St Moritz. Alpine skiing is just the beginning, as the resort also offers cat-skiing (with Revelstoke Cat Skiing), heli-skiing (with Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing) and backcountry skiing. Big on stats, skiers and snowboarders have access to 515k acres of ski terrain. The planned ski lift infrastructure will offer more than 20 lifts and over 100 ski and snowboard runs, making it a competitor to Whistler-Blackcomb.
Like many Canadian ski resorts, Revelstoke claims a four-season existence. Summer activities include biking, fishing and kayaking and a golf course is planned for the future.
Revelstoke's property development continues. The original phase included turn-key apartments (condominiums) and family houses. The village master plan includes over 5,000 new housing units made up of condominiums, hotel suites, townhouses and detached property. One to watch.
