Looking for a New Ski Destination? Bulgaria is Europe’s New Favourite Place to Hit the Slopes!

The Brits love a ski holiday, and whilst the resorts of France, Italy, Austria & Switzerland will always draw the masses the smaller resorts of Eastern Europe are seeing a huge surge in popularity. Easy to access, family friendly AND incredibly affordable, British skiers are forgoing the traditional skiing destinations of Western Europe for the resorts of Bulgaria, and as such companies are heavily investing in infrastructure to develop lift systems and expand skiing areas.

Bansko

Bankso is Bulgaria’s biggest and most popular ski resort. A charming medieval town set in Pirin National Park, Bansko has 75km of excellent pistes perfect for families, beginners and intermediates. The best snow cover is between January and March, and it is then that the off-piste comes to life and experts are well-served too. The resort has recently announced the construction of a new gondola, which will drastically improve access to the ski area from the main town ensuring more skiing and less queues. This news has created a huge amount of interest in property in Bansko, and sales have already increased by a huge 13%.

Borovets

Borovets ski resort property for saleInthesnow.com recently named Borovets the new must-visit ski resort in Europe. A sweet alpine-inspired village popular with families and stag parties alike, there truly is something for everyone here. Set in the Rila mountains underneath Bulgaria’s highest mountain, Mt Musala, Borovets doesn’t have the glamour of Bansko, but it has a charm all of its own. Ideal for intermediate skiers, there is plenty for beginners to learn on, and experts can explore the off-piste if they are looking for more challenging terrain. This large, one-bedroom apartment  (right) is located right next to the ski slopes and has sweeping views across the Rila Mountains.

Pamporovo

Home to one of Europe’s best ski schools, it is ideal for families with young children as there are plenty of gentle, easy to navigate pistes. There are few advanced pistes but the World Cup downhill run, The Wall, is located here as is Bulgaria’s longest ski run, Mechi Chal. Aprés are a bit more relaxed than in Bansko or Borovets, but there are several lively bars with a good atmosphere, delicious food and cheap drinks. This 2-bedroom apartment is bright, fully-furnished and just 200m from a ski lift ensuring you get the most of the bluebird days on the slopes.

Why Buy Your Ski Home in Bulgaria?

Until recently, the main drawback of Bulgaria as a ski destination were the slow lifts and limited terrain but this is soon to be a thing of the past! Constant investment in these towns as they gain traction as Europe’s new go-to ski destinations means they are moving into the future at a rapid pace. Unlike many alpine resorts which have already reached the limit of their growth, the Bulgarian ski areas are still incredibly affordable with plenty of growth potential, so there is no time like now to invest.
