Summary

Similar to Aspen, Vail has a reputation as one of the more high-end US resorts. Whilst you will find plenty ski bums taking advantage of the unbeatable terrain, the Swiss-style streets of Vail Village are lined with designer boutiques, Michelin restaurants and public art by some of Colorado’s most prolific artists. Whilst there are 9 villages within the entire ski resort, Vail Village and Lionshead sitting at the foot of the mountain stand out above the rest. Both offer a huge number of shops, restaurants, bars and music venues and have gondola’s ready to carry you to the top of the mountain in the morning.

Access

Just a 2hr 20min drive from Denver airport and 40min from the local airport, Eagle.

Winter

Vail has some of the most extensive skiing in the USA. With 234km of pistes covering every type of terrain, there are runs here for everyone. Whilst this is enough to keep most people occupied, it is the infamous Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin which attract the expert skiers. In any other resort you would have to hike to find terrain and powder of this calibre, but in Vail these areas are serviced by lifts. Although nothing in vail is extremely steep, the varied terrain and consistent snowfall is a huge drawcard.

Summer

The draw of ski resorts in summer is on the up, and resorts in Colorado are beginning to attract more visitors in the summer than in the winter. With hiking, biking and rafting starting as the snow begins to melt, the adrenalin junkies have something to do even when the skis are put away. Music festivals, free concerts and dance festivals occur every weekend in the outdoor amphitheatre and the town is just as lively in the summer with music every night and outdoor art exhibitions taking place in Vail Village.
